In terms of Leg. Decree No. 196 of 30 June 2003.

In addition, the user has the right to: a) up-date, correct or add to the personal information; b) cancel, transform in anonymous form or block information processed in violation of the law, including any for which preservation is not necessary for the ends for which it was gathered or subsequently processed; c) assurance that the operations referred to in a) and b) have been brought to the attention of those to whom the information has been passed or distributed, except in the case where same proves impossible or would entail a manifestly disproportionate use of means compared to the rights protected.

Finally, the user has the right to object wholly or partly: a) for legitimate reasons, to processing of his personal information, even if pertinent to the purpose for which they were gathered; b) to processing of his personal information for the purpose of sending advertising material or direct sales or market research or commercial communications.

Users’ personal information may not be communicated to third parties, except where it is necessary for the supply of a service in the interest of the user, and in any event within the limits of contractual obligations and the purpose for processing.

However, the nature of the internet itself means it is not possible to use the net with the absolute certainly of not being “spied on”.
